Real Estate Investment Trust - Tricky Taxes, Net Operating Losses and REIT Return Disclosures
Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are a tax-efficient vehicle through which to make investment in real estate attainable to the general public. Recently, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has made investment in REITs even more desirable for the investors. The rules for REITs are complex and unique. Despite functioning like a pass-through entity, REITs may be subject to a variety of taxes. This course provides an in-depth look at taxes REITs may be assessed. This course also explains the unique application of net operating losses in the REIT context. This course is geared toward people who have a working knowledge of REITs.
Upon successful completion of this course, the user should be able to:
identify and understand the various taxes for which a REIT may be liable,
recognize treatment of net operating losses, and
recognize the various tax return disclosures unique to REITs.
