This course reviews and illustrates the enacted tax legislation as well as the issues addressed by the Treasury Department and judicial interpretations for the 2019 tax filing season as well as the upcoming 2020 tax year. In addition, the new retirement rules from the SECURE Act (Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019) that was passed in December of 2019 is discussed. This legislation has some significant changes in the tax rules governing distributions from qualified retirement plans, IRAs, and the taxation of social security income. During the current year, Treasury has finalized regulations that relax the rules associated with hardship distributions and proposed updating the life expectancy tables for annuities and required minimum distributions (RMD).
