This year's EBIA Conference will feature leading professionals addressing advanced compliance issues for employer health, cafeteria and account-based plans — along with a broad variety of compliance issues. Here’s your chance to learn a little about them:
John L. Barlament is an attorney and a Partner with Quarles & Brady LLP, where he advises employers, administrators, brokers, and benefit consultants on all aspects of employee benefits law. John received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1997. He is a contributing author of EBIA’s HIPAA Portability, Privacy & Security and Consumer-Driven Health Care manuals.
Jody L. Dietel
Jody L. Dietel is the Chief Compliance Officer for WageWorks, Inc. and Chair of the Employers Council of Flexible Compensation (ECFC). She serves on the Board of the HSA Council of the American Bankers Association and the Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards (SIGIS), which streamlines standards for the use of health care electronic payment systems in accordance with federal standards. Jody holds a B.A. in psychology from Bethel University in Minnesota, and is an Advanced Certified Flexible Compensation Instructor (ACFCI) and COBRA administration specialist (CAS) through ECFC’s Flexible Compensation Institute.
Andrew Ky Haynes
Andrew Ky Haynes is an attorney and Director of Haynes Benefits PC, an employee benefits and human resources law firm in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and has served as Chairman of the Missouri Bar Employee Benefits Committee and the Missouri Department of Insurance Liaison Committee. Andy received his law degree from Emory University School of Law, where he was Research Editor of the Emory Law Journal. He is a contributing author of EBIA’s HIPAA Portability, Privacy & Security and Group Health Plans: Federal Mandates manuals.
John R. Hickman
John R. Hickman is an attorney and a Partner in the Employee Benefits Practice Group with Alston & Bird in Atlanta and is head of its Health Benefits Group. He is a member of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White 2011), and serves as chair of the ECFC Technical Advisory Group. John received his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1989. He is a contributing author of EBIA’s Cafeteria Plans, Consumer-Driven Health Care, and Health Care Reform manuals, and a contributor to EBIA’s HIPAA Portability, Privacy & Security manual.
Darcy L. Hitesman
Darcy L. Hitesman is an attorney and a Principal Shareholder and Director of Hitesman & Wold P.A. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a frequent speaker to legal and non-legal audiences regarding welfare benefit plan issues. Darcy received her J.D. degree from the University of Minnesota Law School cum laude in 1987 and graduated summa cum laude from Coe College in Iowa in 1984. She is a contributing author of EBIA’s ERISA Compliance manual, and a contributor to EBIA’s Group Health Plans: Federal Mandates and EBIA’s Self-Insured Health Plans manuals.
Jeffrey W. Knapp
Jeffrey W. Knapp is an attorney and an EBIA Senior Editor at Thomson Reuters. Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Jeff practiced law for 16 years in the employee benefits field, most recently at a large Pacific Northwest law firm. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1989, where he was an editor on the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Jeff is the editor and a contributing author of EBIA’s HIPAA Portability, Privacy & Security manual and EBIA’s Form 1094/1095 Workbook for Employers and Advisors.
Jason P. Lacey
Jason P. Lacey is an attorney and a Partner with Foulston Siefkin LLP in Wichita, Kansas. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Employee Benefits Law and is member of the American Bar Association Joint Committee on Employee Benefits. Jason received his law degree from the University of Kansas in 2000 and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 2001. He is a contributing author of EBIA’s Self-Insured Health Plans and Health Care Reform manuals and EBIA’s Form 1094/1095 Workbook for Employers and Advisors.
Deirdre C. Thomas
Deirdre C. Thomas is an attorney and an EBIA Senior Editor at Thomson Reuters. Before joining Thomson Reuters, she practiced employee benefits law for thirteen years, advising employers on ERISA and tax compliance matters for all types of employee benefit plans. Deirdre received her J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law in 1992. She is the editor and a contributing author of EBIA’s ERISA Compliance manual.
Christy A. Tinnes
Christy A. Tinnes is a Principal with the Groom Law Group in Washington, D.C. She is involved in all aspects of health and welfare plans, including ERISA, HIPAA portability, HIPAA privacy, COBRA, and Medicare. Christy received her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998, where she wrote for the South Carolina Law Review. She is a contributing author of EBIA’s Health Care Reform for Employers and Advisors manual.
